What is the towing capacity of the 2026 Ford Explorer?
Every 2026 Ford Explorer trim — from the entry-level Active 100A to the performance ST — has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. This applies to both the 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 and the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6. The maximum tongue weight is 500 lbs. The Class III Trailer Tow Package is standard on all trims, and includes a Class III hitch receiver, a seven-wire harness, and both four-pin and seven-pin trailer connectors. Trailer Sway Control and BLIS® with Trailer Coverage are also standard across the entire lineup.
What is the difference between the Explorer Tremor® and the Explorer ST?
The Tremor® and ST represent two very different performance directions. The Tremor is all-new for 2026 and is built for off-road capability — it comes with standard Intelligent 4WD, an off-road-tuned and raised suspension, Torsen® Limited-Slip Rear Axle, front and rear silver-painted skid plates, all-terrain tires, a unique grille with auxiliary off-road lights, and an exclusive Off-Road drive mode. Its standard engine is the 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4, with the 3.0L V6 available as an upgrade. The Tremor seats 6 with standard captain's chairs.
The ST is Explorer's performance trim, built for speed and driving dynamics. It comes standard with the 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 producing 385 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, a sport-tuned and lowered suspension, quad exhaust, 21" Magnetite wheels, flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, and SelectShift® capability. It seats up to 7 with an available bench seat. Neither model offers the other's core feature — the Tremor doesn't get a lowered sport suspension, and the ST doesn't have standard 4WD or off-road hardware.
Does the 2026 Ford Explorer come in a hybrid?
No. Ford did not offer a hybrid Explorer for the 2026 model year. The 2026 Explorer lineup is powered by two gasoline engines only: the 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 (standard on Active 100A, Active, ST-Line, and Tremor) and the 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 (standard on ST, available on Tremor).
What is Ford BlueCruise and which Explorer trims have it?
Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free highway driver-assist feature that allows you to drive on mapped Blue Zone highways without keeping your hands on the wheel, while a driver-facing camera monitors your attention. For 2026, BlueCruise adds Automatic Lane Change — it can detect slow traffic, initiate a lane change, pass, and return to your lane, all hands-free.
On the 2026 Explorer lineup, BlueCruise is standard on the Platinum (1-year + 90-day plan) and included as a 90-day trial on the ST. It is available as an option on ST-Line and Tremor. It is not available on Active 100A or Active trims.
How many people does the 2026 Explorer seat?
The 2026 Explorer seats up to 7 passengers on most trims when equipped with the available second-row bench seat. Second-row captain's chairs (6-passenger) are standard on the majority of trims. The Tremor® seats 6 only — standard second-row captain's chairs with no bench seat option. The Explorer ST seats 6 standard (captain's chairs) or 7 with the available second-row bench seat.
